Lost Gospels of Blankenburg
3 m, 2 w approximate running time 1 hour 50 minutes
An American serviceman smuggles a box full of artifacts out of war torn Germany at the end of WWII. Years after his death, his longtime lover, the lovable and eccentric Benjamin Turner, still keeps the box hidden somewhere in his Texas home, but has no idea of the objects’ true value. A young, attractive stranger who happens upon the house one afternoon will change everything. A comedy of mystery and intrigue.
I wrote this play in 1993 when I was still experimenting and trying to figure out “the craft.” I wanted to write something beyond my personal experience and a comedy seemed to be a good way to go. The idea came from a newspaper story which I’ve long since lost. This play received a terrific production from the Provincetown Theater Company and earned John Andert (as Benjamin) a best actor award. |
