Biography
Sinan Ünel's father, a graduate student from Istanbul, met and married his mother, an undergrad from Oklahoma, at the University of Michigan. Sinan celebrated his first birthday on a cargo ship, crossing the Atlantic. Raised in Turkey, he graduated from the French Jesuit Lycée Saint Joseph, and moved to the US to attend the University of Kansas.
After dawdling in business and architecture for a couple of years, Sinan found his true calling after writing his first play (in Turkish) and changed his major to English Lit and Playwriting. After graduation Sinan lived in New York City for a year, and then moved to Provincetown, MA, where he spent many years writing and developing his craft. Sinan is the recipient of numerous awards, and the author of more than twenty plays and screenplays. Nowadays he divides his time between New York and Provincetown. He lives with his partner of many years, John Andert, and teaches playwriting at Lesley College in Boston. |
